joomla_1.5_multimediaThe fine folks over at PacktPub are sending me a copy of Joomla 1.5 Multimedia, a book that aims to cover the many ways that you can manage advanced content (aka, multimedia, videos, photos, audio, etc). Its hot off the press, so I'll provide a more in depth review once I get the book in my hands.

For the short term, you can read a sample chapter about image content in case you can't wait.

What I expect from a book like this

Its a little difficult to know what you may be getting, unless you manage to find a copy at the store, but the core of what I would expect from a book like this is more than just covering the extensions available (yes thats helpful), but getting to the concepts and principles behind using multimedia content.

I am not a computer programmer by degree. I actually have a degree in video production, and so I have a vested interest in better understanding the principles of good multimedia content. Just because I can make a video doesn't mean I'm an expert in how to best utilize video in my website, and I'm hoping this book can appeal to someone with advanced Joomla skills as well as the newcomer.

Just to cover my tracks, PacktPub did approach me about writing a review for their book in return for a copy. As an avid reader, I find it hard to say no, and am glad to do the same for other books that fall within the scope of my work from time to time.
