Developers Pledge: Support 1.6 by release
Written by Jeremy Wilken
This is a challenge for developers of Joomla products. I have seen it elsewhere, and wanted to push for it here. The challenge is to pledge 1.6 support for your product by the time it is stable 1.0 release. Truth is I only know of one 1.6 native extension (Akeeba Backup) at the time of writing. Its simple to pledge, and I am suggesting this simple line be used, change for your name and extension.
"(Person/Company) pledges that (extension) will be fully Joomla 1.6 Native by the stable release."
Then once you've pledged and done the work, change it to this.
"(Person/Company) pledged and made (extension) Joomla 1.6 Native."
There are several ways to make this public:
- Put it on the extension JED profile (when you are 1.6 compatible, update for 1.6 native badge)
- Put it on your website
- Tweet/Facebook/Tumblr/Social Media it
- Sign the pledge and list your extension(s) in the comments with a link (and I'll add it below)
- Put it in your emails, forum signatures, etc
Its pretty simple, and basically is a way to raise awareness for users who want to be able to use 1.6, and gives them confidence that there will be extensions ready for the platform. The benefits are that you get to know 1.6 early (and can help with beta testing!), your users will know they can trust you to be up to date, and it will bring more attention to 1.6. So what say you then? Put your pledge out there!
Are you concerned you can't be sure you can get your extension ready for 1.6? Then I suggest changing the pledge to fit your estimated timeline.
