I am happy to announce that SRI 2 (Scottish Recovery Indicator #2), a project that Gnome on the run has been working on with Brian Teeman, has been officially launched. This was a very unique project and I'll be walking through some of the details to give you an insight into how custom applications are developed.

Now a member of the Clear Lake Chamber

Written by Jeremy Wilken

Recently Gnome on the run officially joined the Clear Lake Chamber in an effort to be part of the community and help promote the area. Today the Chamber honored Gnome on the run with a ribbon cutting ceremony, and we'll get a photo linked on here soon.

The Clear Lake Chamber is an organization committed to helping businesses in the Clear Lake Texas area, that includes 2 counties (Harris and Galveson) and  9 cities (Clear Lake City, Clear Lake Shores, El Lago, Kemah, League City, Nassau Bay, Seabrook, Taylor Lake Vallage, and Webster). I'm very happy to be able to help with the Chamber and be part of the community development it provides to the local area.

Changes to Gnome on the run

Written by Jeremy Wilken

Change is inevitable, as we all know. For more than a year, I have been working full time with Joomlashack, letting Gnome on the run assume a passive role. However as of August 1st, I will be leaving Joomlashack to pursue Gnome on the run again as a full scale web development studio.

This blog has been focused greatly on Joomla in the past, however I will be changing the focus of the blog to fit more of the needs of Gnome on the run. The company I have formed will be once again taking on clients, and be working to expand what the company offers its clients.

Leaving the freelance world

Written by Jeremy Wilken

On June 21, I will officially leave the freelance world to begin a new position with Joomla Shack, as Lead Developer. I'm excited about the opportunities ahead and the things that we have cooking. Of course I can't divulge anything as of yet, so you'll just have to pay attention.

I had a good run as a freelancer, have worked on a lot of projects, but have found the pace of keeping track of so many clients and projects to be very waring. As of now, I will no longer accept new projects, and will finish up the projects I have in progress by the time I begin my new position.

Have no fear, I shall continue to maintain this blog and will keep writing about Joomla. If anything, taking on a single job will empower me to be able to focus on my blog even more. This will always remain my personal blog, and be only my opinions and views, for better or worse :)

How to approach a service provider

Written by Jeremy Wilken

I get several emails a week directly from my website that are very similar. They usually start with something like this.

Hello,

I am looking for a Joomla person to help me with my website. It doesn't look good. What would you charge to fix it?

Thank you!

The issue is that I can usually tell from the start if the email has been written so that they could send it to as many people as possible without editing. To me, this is often the clearest sign of what kind of client I am dealing with, and it affects the way that I handle them. To be fair, sometimes clients do this because they are new to the web and are unsure, but others are repeat offenders. I've put together here a small guide on ways to better start your search for a web service provider.
